Internet and Cell Phone Safety Speaker

Tara Smith, St. Giles alum parent and retired FBI agent, will speak to parents with important safety information and answer parent questions.
Supervisory Special Agent Tara Smith retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in May 2020, after more than 21 years of service. SSA Smith has been passionate about child protection since she read an article about child abuse in the newspaper at age ten. She obtained her B.A. in Psychology from Miami University (Ohio) and her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Following law school, she practiced juvenile law in Denver, Colorado, as a guardian ad litem in delinquency and child custody cases. During SSA Smith’s career with the FBI, she investigated violent crimes, international terrorism, online child exploitation and human trafficking. She was a member of the Evidence Response Team and served as the applicant coordinator and regional testing site coordinator for special agent applicants. During her last four years, she led the Crimes against Children and Human Trafficking squad. In her retirement, she continues to provide internet safety training to schools and organizations.
